The mission of the Institute of Cristal is to provide and share science and technology through the relationship between education and research. We aim to prepare and assist in the development of human resources, which are essential and strategic for the sustainability of Timor-Leste.
We engage in specific activities to enhance the learning process, including:
- Scientific research and community service at the tertiary level.
- Professional training in science and technology based on international standards.
- Assisting trainees in obtaining quality qualifications and professions.
Objectives
The objectives of the Department of Portuguese Language are to:
- Have extensive knowledge of the Portuguese language and literary theory.
- Dominate the Portuguese language in spoken and written forms in academic, workplace, and societal contexts.
- Produce professional Portuguese teachers proficient in teaching language skills (reading, writing, speaking) and language sub-skills like grammar and vocabulary.
- Develop innovative methods for teaching and learning Portuguese.
- Design effective curricula for Portuguese language instruction.
- Provide professional translators and interpreters.
- Produce modules for language teaching and learning processes.
- Conduct research in linguistics, literature, culture, and education.
- Be equipped to work as journalists.
Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum is structured over eight semesters, ensuring a comprehensive education in Portuguese:
Semester Breakdown
- Semester I: Introduction to Pedagogy, Sociology of Education, Psychology of Education, Philosophy of Education, Observation and Study Methods, Information and Communication Technology.
- Semester II: Tetum Language I, Tetum Language II, English Language I, English Language II, Religion, RDTL Constitution and Citizenship, Don Bosco’s Preventive System, Business Education, Basic Mathematics.
- Semester III: Portuguese Language I, Portuguese Language II, Portuguese Language III, Tetum Linguistics, Portuguese Linguistics.
- Semester IV: Portuguese Lexicon and Morphology, Portuguese Syntax and Semantics, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Translation Techniques, Introduction to Literary Studies.
- Semester V: Portuguese Language Literature, Brazilian and African Literature, Research Methodology, Seminar, Monograph.
- Semester VI: Micro Teaching, Portuguese Language Teaching, Didactics of Literature, Teaching Internship, Guidance and Counseling, School Administration.
- Semester VII: Portuguese Language Curriculum Studies, Portuguese Language Assessment.
